About the pattern
The Stitch Me Up Sweater is a kids’ raglan sweater. This unicorn version has 2 unicorns, a rainbow poop and 4 stars spread harmoniously across the sweater. It is knitted top down with 2x2 ribbing and a folded neckline. The neckline is shaped with German short rows and has an elastic bind off for those little but big heads. The unicorn motifs are embroidered on with duplicate stitches and basic embroidery stitches. The pattern contains thorough descriptions, pictures, diagrams and instructional videos on how to do the embroidery, 2x2 Italian bind-off and the folded rib with an elastic bind-off. The pattern comes with several yarn options some of which contain mohair. Note that mohair is sometimes not recommended for kids under 1y, so consider a non-mohair option for the smallest size or be mindful of the extent you use the sweater. For the unicorn hair also be aware that tiny fingers can get entangled in long threads, so consider trimming the hair short for the smallest size. If you want to go all in on the rainbow look, this pattern can be combined with the Upgrade Sweater pattern which is compatible with this pattern.

You can find info for the following yarn alternatives in the pattern info for the dinosaur and robot version on my website (gauge is the same for all the yarn alternatives):

1 strand of Filcolana, Pernilla (175 m / 50 g) – dinosaur version.

And

1 strand of Sandnes, Tynn Silk Mohair (212 m / 25 g) together with 1 strand of Kaos Yarn, Halo Brushed Alpaca (225 m / 25 g) or 2 strands of either silk mohair or brushed alpaca – robot version.

You can also combine the unicorn motifs of this pattern with the gradient pattern of the Upgrade Sweater.

Note that the yarn amounts above are generally rounded up to be on the safer side, but if your measurements differ from the given measurements in the pattern, consider if you need to get more than listed above.

Yarn usage for the embroidery will depend on the type of yarn you choose. For the white in the unicorns I used about 5 g of merino (225 m / 50 g m) and 3 g of silk mohair (212 m / 25 g) and about 5 g of silk mohair (210 m / 25 g) for the rainbow poop and unicorn hair.
For thicker yarn types expect no more than 10 g of the colour most used.

Recommended yarn for the embroidery is the same type and thickness or slightly thicker than the yarn used for the knitted base to get proper coverage. If you used 2 lace strands (mohair or brushed alpaca) for the knitted base, I recommend 1 strand of merino (225-235 m / 50 g) with 1 strand of mohair (210-215 m / 25 g) for the embroidery. In this case think about using light and airy yarn and avoid heavier marerials like cotton with respect for the soft and light knitted base. In general, much thicker yarn to create full coverage is not recommended, as the layers will become very thick and stiff.

To create the rainbow effect in the rainbow poop and the unicorn hair, use 2-3 strands of different coloured mohair. You can use a colour changing mohair (see the light purple sweater version) or manually create a gradient with different colours (see the blue sweater version). For size 6-12 months this amount and placement of mohair is completely safe, but consider making the hair relatively short, so the small fingers do not get entangled.
