About the Pattern
The Balaclavosaur is a light and flexible kids balaclava with a little extra spikey insulation on top. It can be knitted with a little thicker yarn for a denser and warmer version.
It’s knitted top down in stockinette stitch by picking up stitches on the sides of a knitted square on the top of the head. The face opening is shaped with decreases and increases, the back of the head with German short rows and the neck with expanding ribbing. The bottom of the neck rib is continued with a few rounds of stockinette with increases and decreases to create a spikey pattern and the face opening is completed with a 1x1 rib.
Dinosaur scales and teeth are knitted on the basic balaclava and scales are filled with a little bit of stuffing before closing. The eyes are made by sewing on buttons and adding a few small lines of white yarn for that twinkle in the eye.
